An Excerpt from my Investigator's Files
The Allan Tanner Case
(The South Australian Mothership) By Brad Mildern One morning back in 1996, a fellow investigator phoned me to say there had
been a mass sighting of an orange sphere in Batemans Bay (a nearby town) the previous night. He had arranged for us to interview several of the witnesses that
day, so we set out for a pleasant 2 hour drive through the southern New South Wales eucalyptus forests. Batemans Bay (1) is a tourist/fishing village about 4 hour's drive south of Sydney. It is
surrounded by forested hills and has a beautiful setting with several rocky islets in the wide bay.
Allan Tanner lived in a caravan park there on the foreshore. He had been married the previous
day and celebrated with the wedding party at the caravan park.
Around 10:20 PM he had a ringing buzz in his left ear and the wedding party watched as an
orange sphere came out of the distance in the western sky and approached the bay. The sphere appeared to come from about 10 miles away and flew against the prevailing wind at
about 1000 ft under a solid cloud cover at around 8-10000 ft. It flew at about the speed of a light plane but when directly in front of the watchers it stopped and hovered for around 5
minutes before beginning a series of jump around maneuvers near the same position. It then shot away at great speed to the North until about 10 miles away before returning to the same spot at the same speed.
After more jumping around it slowly proceeded in a SE direction until out of sight. It was guessed by the witnessed that it would have been around 2 meters in diameter. This whole
performance was thought to have been captured on video tape.
Unfortunately, the video camera was a truly ancient B&W camera with no low light facility or
ability to get high resolution in the view finder. Tape analysis later showed about 4 seconds of tape with an object about 6-8 pixels wide and no distinct features.
All of the guests saw the UFO and ads placed in the local paper raised another 3 witnesses from west of town but obtained no greater detail. Jackpot While interviewing Allan, I asked the standard Have you ever seen other UFOs or had strange things happen? His answer was monumental.
Allan had once been a long distance truck driver handling 24 wheelers on interstate runs. Back in (he thinks it was) early 1985 he and another 'truckie' were driving in a convoy of two along
the coast road between Mt Gambier and Adelaide in South Australia (2). This is a single lane blacktop, one dune back from the beach and stretches for about 70 miles without a town or
settlement. It is renowned for UFO sightings.
They had left the truck roadhouse at Kingston on the southern end of the highway at around 7
PM and had been driving for about ½ an hour through a clear cloudless night when they noticed lights approaching. Allen, in the lead truck radioed to his buddy that some fools were
drag racing towards them and were taking up all the road. A series of lights on high beam were coming towards them about ½ mile ahead and so they pulled off the road in a shallow cutting
about the height of the rigs and left their lights and engines running.
They climbed up onto the cutting embankment to await the guys racing towards them, but
were amazed when all the lights lifted slowly off the road and it became clear what the object was that they were attached to.
At about 300 yards away they could clearly see it was a circular dark grey disc with around 12 to 15 bright white lights on its rim. The surface beneath it had square or rectangular
protrusions built into it, but no lights or openings. As it approached the lights on their rigs went out but their (diesel) engines kept running. Traveling at an estimated speed of 20 miles per
hour and flying at about 100 to 150 ft., it passed directly overhead the two amazed drivers and continued on into the southern distance.
Allan had time while it was overhead to judge its size against the two rigs parked end to end. He reckoned it was at least 300 ft in diameter give or take 10 ft.
After about 20 minutes the two drivers composed themselves enough to resume their trip and carried on northwards. When they had been driving for about 15 minutes they came across a
highway patrol police car off the road with its nose in a ditch. A much shaken police sergeant explained he had been run off the road by a Bloody great flying saucer playing chicken. It had
stopped his engine and doused his lights and all he could do was steer off the road. They towed his patrol car back onto the road where he said that as far as he was concerned it never
happened and if they ever mentioned it he would deny it all.
Allan then went on to describe a series of peculiar incidents that happened over the next six
months involving a pair of very strangely dressed people (the same tall blonde man and woman each time). They would appear beside the highway in various places around Australia, as he
was driving by. They wouldn't move except to watch him but had friendly smiles on their faces. The last time he saw them was in the middle of the city of Perth. As he was stopped at a
traffic light in his rig they appeared on the curb beside him. The woman allegedly stepped up to him and said, You will not see us again now.
From that time on Allan claims he has seen many lights in the sky and has clear warning of when to look for them as he gets a buzzing ringing in his left ear. He has had his ear
examined with no result. My efforts to track down the other driver have been unsuccessful. Efforts to trace the police sergeant after 11 years without divulging the UFO story have been at best, unproductive.
