Lechusa

About a year ago, my Mom heard a Mexican story from her friend about witches that turn into big white owls, they were called Lechusas.
The story goes that my Mother's friend was at her Mother's house in Mexico, and she lived close to the mountains in the middle of nowhere. She told a story about a ritual that you do, by reciting a prayer while holding hands in a circle and making knots on a cord.
According to the story, the prayer calls on a "Lechusa" and in the mountains supposedly there lived many witches who did black magic. So, after her Mother said the story, her family begged her to try it. After a while, the family convinced her to tell them the prayer and do the ritual with them.
So everybody got ready and made a circle outside, close to a field. When they were about to begin, the Mother said, "Whatever you do, don't break the circle and whatever you do, don't get scared and run away."
So then they started. The Mother said the prayer and each time she repeated it, she would make one knot. As everybody concentrated on the prayer, they saw a faint light coming from one of the nearby mountains, soon the light was getting brighter, and seemed to be heading towards the circle.
Then, out of the trees, a gigantic white owl came flying over the field straight at them, and they knew that it was a "Lechusa" because no owl could ever be that size. She said that it was at least 5 feet tall and that its wingspan was about 15 feet.
Everybody got terrified but still held hands and tried to concentrate on the prayer. But a lady was to scared and ran away, which caused the circle to break, which let the "Lechusa" get away.
Another story about "Lechusas" deals with the neighbor that lives across the street from our house.
The owner of the house had a brother, and her brother had a wife who practiced black Mexican witchcraft. And his wife never trusted him. One day finally after a bad marriage the couple became separated, but for the sake of their children still lived in the same house. But, whenever the husband would go to visit his sister, strange things would happen in my neighborhood. My neighbor's brother said that his wife would do things to make sure where he was and do black magic to hurt his family and friends.
Well, like I said, strange things would happen. Like bright red lights would be seen in driveways, and they weren't cars, and we would see people who would vanish, and we don't know if that was black magic or ghosts because they're still here, but there was this one incident where my sister and our cousin were talking in our front yard and saw a big white owl just sitting on our neighbors tree.
The next day at about 5:30 in the morning my father and said that while he was getting ready for work he saw our neighbors brother packing up his car and leaving, which seemed pretty strange considering he had barely gotten there the day before at about 9:00 p.m.
Later in the day our neighbor came to our house and asked if we saw any strange things or anything out of the ordinary. Of course we told her about all the strange things that had happened, but she seemed more interested in my sisters sighting of the owl.
She told us that it was her brother's wife coming to check up on him as a "Lechusa" and that's what caused him to leave. Ever since then. strange things keep happening in our neighborhood and I keep on coming up with a new story every day.
You don't have to believe me, heck I wouldn't even believe me if I were you, but I swear both these stories are true and you can e-mail me when you want to hear more.

Until this Report was submitted to Mystical Universe, I must admit that I had no knowledge of a "Lechusa." Searching the Internet did not produce much information, at least in English:
